Alaska Nurses Foundation: Promoting Alaska's Nursing Profession

The Alaska Nurses Foundation (AaNF) is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to increasing the public's knowledge and understanding of the profession of nursing and factors affecting the health of all Alaskans, as well as, supporting research and education in the profession.

We support nurses doing research in areas where their passion for the practice shines. The health of Alaskans is important to every nurse who practices and we believe nurses have first hand knowledge and ideas how best to promote healthy Alaskans.

Support Available

AaNF seeks grant proposals yearly to issue awards; the grants are available to any registered nurse, or group of nurses, who currently holds, or has held, a license as a registered nurse in the United States and becomes a member of the Foundation. There are four different types of grants available; if you have questions about the grant type for which you should be applying, please contact one of the following individuals, including your name and phone number in your message:

As you are completing your application, it you have questions about any aspect, you may contact those same individuals for advice or clarification.

Structure

The Foundation membership, which is made up of RNs from across Alaska, elects a seven-member Board of Directors. The Board then elects a president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer. All directors are RNs; one RN member is a current member of the Alaska Nurses Association Board, and the AaNA President or Executive Director acts as an ex-officio member of the Foundation board In addition to the elected officers, AaNF has active members who serve on the Awards Committee, the Nominations Committee, and the Membership Committee. No members of the Board or Committees are paid for their service to the Foundation.

The Memorial Plaque hangs in a prominent location in the offices of the Alaska Nurses Association. If you would like to memorialize a nurse or other person, a contribution of $50 will enable that person's name to be added to the Memorial Plaque. Memorial contributions may be mailed to AaNF, P.O. Memorial contributions are fully tax deductible. The donor will receive acknowledgement of the contribution. Additionally, one relative (specified by the donor) will receive a notice of the honor that has been paid by their loved one.

The future of the Alaska Nurses Foundation depends on all nurses in Alaska who practice in a wide variety of settings with passion, commitment and dedication. Role models for the future of nursing are necessary and vital to the profession. Knowledge and education about what we do informs the public about how crucial our practice is for their health.
