Ninety percent of registered nurses in Alaska are members of the AaNA.
Vivid Description:
o Growing the membership of the association is essential in meeting core purpose, and depends on a stronger, more recognized, better connected and marketed state association that is relevant to all 7,000 registered nurses in Alaska. Remaining relevant to RNs is a function of figuring out what RNs want and need from membership – in essence, figuring out “what’s in it for them” – such as health insurance, continuing education and advocacy.
o Becoming more connected is the product of more active pursuit of strategic partners, such as the Board of Nursing around specific continuing education for RNs. Becoming stronger is an internal function, based on increasing organizational sustainability by expanding earned income and other revenue, enhancing our branding and marketing, and making the most of a reinvigorated membership structure.
The AaNA is recognized as the “go-to place” for obtaining nursing contact hours.
Vivid Description:
o As the go-to place, the Association will offer a wide range of contact hour courses online that specifically meet the needs of RNs, such as patient and nurse safety, bullying and the workplace, ethics, personal financial planning for nurses, and many more – at least one new curriculum will be developed each year.
o Fully investigate opportunities to provide meaningful health insurance and other benefits to staff and members.
o Connect with the Foraker Group to assess the potential fit of their plan, and possible extension of those benefits to association members.
o Complete and implement a phased process for getting AaNA’s physical and virtual information technology infrastructure right.
o Finalize replacement of priority capital items, ensuring high operability.
o Roll out a new, completely revamped website that effectively meets the internal needs of staff, serves as an effective membership development tool.
o Complete development of the “Patient and Nurse Safety Act Curriculum.”
o Plan for comprehensive outreach to members and non-members.
o Reach out to the State board of Nursing about incorporating an “Ethics in Nursing” curriculum into the state’s RN licensing process.
o Develop a comprehensive plan for building a strong board.
o Fully examine the efficacy of the two-year board requirement – too short?
o Nominating Committee to finalize nominee names by July.
