We’re Hiring: Join AaNA as our Legislative Chair (or Co-Chair!)

We’re seeking an exceptional nurse to join our team of dedicated staff as a part-time Legislative Committee Chair, or two exceptional nurses to serve collaboratively as Co-Chairs of the committee. As our Legislative Chair or Co-Chair, you’ll work in our Anchorage office and lead our Legislative Committee and advocacy efforts as part of our mission to advance the profession of nursing and improve healthcare for all Alaskans.

The Alaska Nurses Association is a non-profit member-led professional association and labor union working to advance the profession of nursing and improve healthcare for all Alaskans. We’re committed to our core values of integrity, advocacy, professionalism, representation and empowerment. We empower nurses through our collective bargaining program, promote professional development and education, and advocate for better healthcare and workers’ rights.

What you’ll do:

  • Plan and lead meetings of AaNA’s Legislative Committee
  • Help develop and coordinate member engagement efforts related to AaNA’s advocacy work such as participation in the Legislative Committee, rallies and town hall events, letter writing campaigns, and legislative fly-ins
  • Educate AaNA members, elected officials, and community members about AaNA’s issues of concern and advocacy priorities
  • Work with AaNA lobbyists to monitor and respond to state legislation
  • Write letters of legislative support and opposition in accordance with AaNA positions and priorities
  • Provide monthly legislative updates to the AaNA Board of Directors
  • Meet with elected officials and their staff to discuss AaNA legislative positions and goals
  • Testify at legislative hearings and coordinate member testimony and involvement
  • Attend and speak at conventions, meetings, and trainings about AaNA’s legislative work
  • Develop relationships with external organizations and agencies to advance AaNA’s advocacy goals for the benefit of Alaska’s nurses

What we’re looking for:

  • A registered nurse licensed in the state of Alaska with current membership in AaNA
  • Excellent communication skills
  • High degree of professionalism
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Ability to conduct research and to develop and meet advocacy goals
  • Ability to engage members and motivate them to take action
  • Belief in our mission and the work we do
