The next issue of The Alaska Nurse magazine will focus on travel volunteering and medical mission trips, and we want to hear from you!

We are now collecting stories for our August/September issue and are looking for stories about the entire travel volunteering experience, including favorite memories, lessons learned, and helpful tips. Please share your stories with us!

Here are some suggested topics, but we know you can think of many more:

  • Photos & summaries of your trip!
  • Finding the right volunteering program
  • Little known facts about medical missions
  • Personal health considerations traveling abroad
  • Funny anecdotes
  • Things that went wrong
  • Things that went right
  • The benefits of volunteering on a medical mission trip
  • Tips, advice, and lessons learned
  • Finding your purpose through volunteering
  • Ethical considerations in volunteering abroad
  • Responding to a public health emergency or natural disaster
  • How you got started – what inspired you
  • What it’s actually like to go on a volunteer medical trip

Submit your stories and photos to andrea@aknurse.org no later than July 12th.

Feel free to reach out with questions, and please share our call for stories with your friends and colleagues who can inspire others with their volunteering experiences!
