Happy Labor Day Weekend:

This Labor Day, 130 years after the first Labor Day in 1882, I reflect on the many accomplishment of the AaNA and the Labor Program. We have accomplished many great standards for nurses as well as our patients. As nurses we have the honor of sharing life events and uncertain times for patients and their families. We put people at ease when they come into hospitals, clinics, emergency rooms and all the various situations in which people receive healthcare. We make complicated decisions and prioritize patient and family needs on a daily basis. Our expertise, knowledge and caring are what patients deserve in this fast paced, changing healthcare system.

Through our labor contracts we have security in the economic and general welfare for the nurses we represent at Providence Alaska Medical Center, Central Peninsula General Hospital and Peace Health Ketchikan Medical Center. We share in the rich history of workers in America. Together we enjoy the work standards that other workers fought for before us. Work safety standards that keep workers safe. There is always more work to be done. It is up to us to carry on the efforts for all workers in America.

Thanks for choosing the profession of nursing this Labor Day.
