THE MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY ASSOCIATION (MDA) in Alaska is actively recruiting Volunteer Nurses (RN or LPN), to serve as medical staff for our 2013 MDA Summer Camp held at Birchwood Camp in Chugiak, Alaska, July 28-August 2nd.
The Alaska MDA is also recruiting volunteers to serve as camp counselors!
MDA Summer Camp is a magical place where children with neuromuscular disease can participate in a wide range of activities specially designed for young people who have limited mobility or use wheelchairs. Our campers range in age from 6-17 years, and each camper is matched with a volunteer counselor who will receive training from MDA staff prior to camp to prepare them for their important role as a volunteer counselor- one who provides the care, close supervision, and attention that a child with a neuromuscular disease needs. Volunteer medical staff (RN and LPN) are needed on site as well, and must be prepared to stay at camp the entire week, attending to the medical needs of our campers. We will have a physician on-call for more serious emergencies. Our volunteer staff will sleep in comfortable cabins in a scenic area, surrounded by people dedicated to making MDA Summer Camp a safe and memorable week for children with neuromuscular diseases.
If you are interested in this wonderful opportunity to serve children with disabilities and make their summer special, please call Kathy Archey, Health Care Service Coordinator at MDA Alaska @276-2131, or Email: karchey@mdausa.org.
The key to success for MDA Summer Camp is a great volunteer team! Space is limited, therefore applications will be reviewed on a "first come, first serve" basis.
All applications are due in the MDA office by Friday, June 28th! Please call the office for an application packet: 276-2131.
