About the Continuing Education Program

The AaNA Continuing Education (CE) Program was developed in 1974. The goal of the CE program has not changed in over 25 years: we provide a commitment to the nurses for life-long learning.

The AaNA believes it is vital for nurses to systematically build upon their basic preparation through learning activities. Participating in continuing education activities provides a means for nurses to improve both professional competence and personal satisfaction.

CE Committee Members

The members of the CE committee are nurses interested in education from all over the state of Alaska.

Many of the committee members also have degrees in education. Committee members review each course to ensure quality and compliance to national guidelines.

Requirements to become a CE Committee Member are:

  1. Be an RN in the state of Alaska
  2. Hold a BSN
  3. Be a member of the Alaska Nurses Association
  4. Be willing to serve on the committee for 4 years

To apply to become a CE Committee Member contact the CE Director, Norma Monsen at nmonsen@aknurse.org or call (907) 274-0827.

About the Continuing Education Approval Program (CEAP)

Application Process

The AaNA is an accredited approver of continuing education courses from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). ANCC has minimum requirements which must be met in order to obtain CEAP approved contact hours. AaNA membership is not required.

Organizations and Individuals who are Holding Courses and Want to Give CE Credits

To apply for CE contact hours, download the CE application form and fill in the information. Upon receipt of the application, the course needs to be reviewed by three nurse educators. The reviewers evaluate various aspects involved in producing a quality educational offering, such as: target audience, course objectives, and the participant evaluation form. The fee is based on the contact hours, which is listed on the CE application form.

You can either print out the application or save it to your computer by clicking the download button. You will be able to type directly onto the application with your computer, however we are not currently able to accept on-line submission of the CE application. Please print your application and mail it via the US Postal Service or fax it to (907) 272-0292.

Common Problems Encountered When Filling Out the Application

Most people have difficulty writing a "behavioral objective." The purpose of a behavioral objective is to allow the course participant to measure an objective to see if it has been achieved. A behavioral verb is used to make an objective measurable, such as: describe, list, discuss, and define. A partial list of these verbs are listed on the application.

Not sure what the form requires? Help is only a phone call away! Call the CE Director at anytime; I enjoy helping people with their application. Contact the CE Director, Norma Monsen at nmonsen@aknurse.org or call (907) 274-0827.
